Q&A: What would cause a car to act strangely after leaving a car wash?
Question by John G: What would cause a car to act strangely after leaving a car wash?
My girlfriend has a 2002 Hyundai Accent with about 130,000 miles. We took it to a car wash. After leaving the car wash, the check engine light started flashing and the engine shook. After about 15 minutes the shaking stopped and the car drove normally again. This happened about 3 weeks ago and there have been no issues since then. What would cause her car to do this?

I can’t say for sure that there is a difference. My best friend is a body man and painter, and I must say, a very good one. I have seen him paint wheels with regular car paint before. It holds up just fine, and looks great.
Besides that, He has painted engines before installing them with standard automotive paint and it does not burn off, peel or discolor, and it lasts longer than high heat engine paint.
If you are referring to spray paint from an aerosol can, there is a difference. Wheel paint is supposed to be more resistant to chemicals such as wheel cleaners, and hold up to heat from the brakes better than regular paint.

Simply disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. When you get back and hook it up, you will need to reset the radio stations and clock – no big deal.

My car won’t start, the lights and horn work, but the starter (I think) just makes a clicking sound?
Question by Alan C: My car won’t start, the lights and horn work, but the starter (I think) just makes a clicking sound?
I drive a 92 protege. I was giving a standard driving lesson, when, after a stall, the car wouldn’t start again. The battery was not holding a full charge, so I replaced it and the posts. I now get a much louder clicking sound, but the car still won’t start. I have successfully push-started the car, and checked the fuses. The car is old, but was running fine before the lesson, and gave no indication of trouble to come. Is the starter the only possibility, or does anyone know of another possible explanation?

If you can push start it then the issue is still betweent the battery, cables or starter.
If you turn on the headlights ant try to start. Do the headlights dim? then the starter is kaput. if they don’t clean the cable ends. ground and positive at the battery and at the starter and frame.
